We’re looking for another data analyst apprentice! To get a taste of what it’s like, we asked our first apprentice Cavan Frier, who started with us in September about his experience so far.
Why did you want to work for Kaizen?
“The most exciting thing about working for Kaizen is the ambition of the company and how it is constantly growing. This appealed to me as I am also at the very start of my career with so much potential, so as a company and an individual we are on similar paths. I think the scope for how much of a success Kaizen could be in the years to come is huge and I am very proud to be a part of it.
The values of the company are very important to me and I think are key to the success of Kaizen so far.
The team of people at Kaizen (Kaizeners) you get to work with welcome you like a new family member, which really helps when you join the company as you hit the ground running when you start and settle in really quickly.”
Why did you want to become an apprentice?
“I wanted to become an apprentice because I love learning, but I wanted to use what I learn on a day-to-day basis, knowing that what I am learning is purposeful and relevant to the role that I grow into. I could have gone to university but since starting my apprenticeship with Kaizen I am really glad I did not go down that route.
I love working in the office environment where I learn something new every day and enjoy playing my part in my team.
The buzz of London is something that gets me up in the morning and the experience I have already gained from my apprenticeship so far is priceless, from collaboration and communication with colleagues, to going on courses and working on projects that develop my skills as a data analyst.”
What have you been working on?
“I am currently working on the delivery of our accuracy testing for EMIR and Dodd Frank and am involved in the testing development for MiFID II and SFTR. I have also been on a data analyst’s concepts course and have passed my first BCS exam towards becoming a qualified data analyst.”
We’re looking for another apprentice. What advice would you give them?
“Go for it! Being an apprentice is a great way to start your career and you get-on-the job experience most graduates will not gain until after university when they are 23. In my opinion this experience is invaluable. You will get a real understanding of the working world and what is expected of you in your role and this allows you to know exactly what your job will entail when you finish your apprenticeship.”
